"I visited a tech school and watched students try to learn Linux on PCs too slow to run VirtualBox. Some had only phones. They weren't behind because they lacked ability — they lacked infrastructure. That day I decided to build RootPath."
— Abdulmalik Adebayo, creator of RootPath
🐧 What is RootPath?
RootPath is a browser-based Linux learning environment built for students who can't run virtual machines. No install, no setup — just open a browser tab and start learning.
It features a simulated Linux filesystem with real command behaviour, 28 guided lessons from Linux Basics for Hackers by OccupyTheWeb, and a Live Linux tab powered by WebAssembly.
👨💻 About the builder
My name is Abdulmalik Adebayo — I go by Malik. I'm a 300-level BSc Cybersecurity student at Osun State University (Uniosun), an active NACSS member, and a freelance web developer from Osogbo, Nigeria.
RootPath is my contribution to making Linux and security education accessible to every African student regardless of what device they own.
📖 Content source
Lesson content is adapted from Linux Basics for Hackers by OccupyTheWeb (No Starch Press, 2019) — one of the most widely used Linux books in the cybersecurity community.
RootPath turns these lessons into interactive, hands-on terminal exercises you can complete right in your browser.
